Page 6: Generative AI for Mesh
In 2025, we are truly living in the era of Generative AI, and this revolution extends to 3D mesh creation as well! Today, advanced deep learning models can generate 3D meshes directly from text prompts or images.
In this workbook, you are encouraged to use meshes generated by AI.
Several commercial platforms provide AI-based mesh generation services:
Since generating 3D meshes requires significant computing resources, most of these services are not entirely free. However, some platforms such as Meshy AI offer free credits for new users, allowing us to experience AI mesh generation. Below is an instruction guide for generating a mesh using Meshy AI.
Steps
-
Go to Meshy AI and sign up. After registration, you may receive 100 free credits (shown in orange at the top of the site).
-
Go to Workspace, then click Text to 3D or Image to 3D.
-
Change the AI model to Meshy-4. (Downloading models generated by Meshy-5 or Meshy-6 requires a Pro plan.)
-
Enter a text prompt (e.g., “white sedan”) or upload an image.
-
Click Generate. After a few minutes, you will see the generated models on the right side, usually four candidate meshes.
-
Choose one of the four candidates. To generate a texture, set “Generate Texture” to Yes and click Confirm.
-
Each mesh generation costs 10 credits, and each texture generation costs 10 credits. You can therefore try around 4–5 times before using up your free credits.
Note: For this assignment, do not generate or submit excessively large mesh files. Large files may take too long to load.
You can use Generative AI to create meshes (geometries) or textures (for material maps) for one of the exercises on Page 7 (Graphics Town Buildings (Exercise 4)) and Page 8 (A Car for Graphics Town (ex 5))
